Preparing for Griha Pravesh: Our Vastu Checklist Before Moving In

I still remember the day I first stepped into our new home — bare walls, empty rooms, and yet it felt already complete — full of dreams, hopes, and the quiet excitement of a new beginning. My husband and I had been searching for months for the right house where we could feel at home. A positive, peaceful and balanced space where we can create good memories.

Coming from a family where tradition and religion matter most, our priority was to find a Vastu-compliant home. It’s not because we are scared of bad luck but because we believe in creating harmony and peace. My old home was not aligned with Vastu, and one of my friends shared that incorporating Vastu principles into her home had led to major positive changes in her life. So we were 100% sure we should shift to a Vastu-friendly apartment.

When It Clicked:

After exploring many properties in Ghaziabad and Noida that didn’t feel right, we found a platform that lets us search for Vastu-compliant homes. This website saved us time and effort. When we found listings that fit our budget and preferences, something just clicked. The main entrance was in the northeast, the kitchen faced southeast, and the master bedroom was perfectly placed in the southwest. It felt aligned—even before we moved in.

As the Griha Pravesh day arrived, as suggested by our family priest, preparations for the rituals began. It wasn’t just about moving to the new house; it was more of a sacred transition.

Here are the steps we followed before entering our home:

  • Selecting the Auspicious Date and Time

We talked to our family priest and asked for a suitable date; he selected a date during Shubh Muhurat. He suggested doing the ritual early in the morning, right after sunrise, when the energy is calm and fresh.

  • Purifying and Decorating the Space

As the date was finalised, we began cleaning every corner and each floor of the room with salt water to remove the negativity. I also added Dettol disinfectant to the water to clean the floor, ensuring a refreshing fragrance throughout the home.

We decorated the main door with fresh mango leaves and a big, vibrant rangoli featuring the morpankha because it is said to be auspicious. As per Vastu, the entrance is the doorway to invite positive energy into the home. We decorated the windows with long, threaded garlands.

  • Vastu Pooja and Ganesh Havan

Before any rituals, Lord Ganesha is worshipped so that the journey ahead is free of obstacles. After that, a Vastu pooja was performed to align the five essential elements in the home.

The sound of holy mantras echoed through the homes; it gave me goosebumps. The energy I felt was so divine and uplifting that I couldn’t even believe that we bought our new home after so many years of planning. It was like a dream come true.

Final Thoughts

After the rituals, my mother-in-law, my husband, and a few family members didn’t sleep that night. It’s a common belief that someone should stay awake to “guard” the positive energy. So we stayed up, surrounded by boxes, drinking chai, and talking about so many things till sunrise. It was a beautiful feeling to have some time together.

Now, when I sit on the balcony and look out at the sunrise, I feel grateful. Our home is created with ancient tradition, love and peace.

Finding a home that aligns with Vastu was a journey, but it became easier when we used Hunt Vastu Homes. They had listings with Vastu features clearly mentioned for every budget and location, which made the shortlisting process easier.

If you’re planning your Griha Pravesh for properties in Faridabad or Delhi NCR, I hope this story helps you as well. Move into your new home with faith and a heart full of gratitude.
